This was a rather fast painting. The photo reference comes from the Anthropology Lab at the University of Siena where I studied. Though it was a color photograph, it seemed black and white save the mossy greens present. I sketched this rapidly over another painting which peeks through in some areas. I had intended to take it to a higher level of definition but, stepping back, it felt complete. Up close, the loose, gestural brush marks are in plain view while they come together from further away.
