True Colors

Here again, the color variation on a roof nearby took my breath away and I was set on painting it from life. It wasn’t an easy task as I spotted it outside the window of my tiny half-bathroom and had to perch sideways on the windowsill, pastels, drawing board and all. Even as I painted it, I was in disbelief but those truly are the colors I saw. I have found that the longer I study one single subject, the deeper and more vast it becomes. Painting can be like mountain climbing, after years of arduous, concentrated struggle and hard-won conquest, you stop for a moment and look around and realize just how tiny you are and how much more there is to discover!
